There are three phases involved in the wound-healing process with SkinPen
Phase I (Inflammation phase) – The piercing of the skin triggers a response in your immune system which disinfects the wounds, increases blood flow and initiates new tissue formation.
Phase II (Proliferation phase) – A new network of blood vessels develop in addition to wound rebuilding involving new granulation cells.
Phase II (Remodeling phase) – The wound is replaced with new blood vessels and Dermal tissues.

What is involved in a SkinPen treatment ?
The process from start to finish of a SkinPen treatment takes around 45 mins.
Our aestheticians then start by thoroughly cleansing your skin to remove not only makeup, but also other dirt and debris your skin might’ve accumulated. That way, the microneedling pen doesn’t have to struggle through an extra layer before being effective. After your face is clean, a topical numbing cream is applied and allowed to absorb.
Next, we’ll apply Super Serum to your skin – it’s a specialised serum we designed to be full of antioxidants and hydrating agents. When we use the microneedling device, it’ll bring this serum along as it punctures the skin. This allows the serum to penetrate even more deeply into the skin and supercharge your results.
We then apply the device to the skin, creating tiny channels and micro-wounds. The SkinPen is carefully glided across the area of concern using the Skinfuse LIFT HG (Allergy free from cytotoxic) to create hundreds of microscopic puncture wounds which stimulates the natural repair process and activates collagen and elastin production.
Erythema should be visible with possible signs of blood spotting, this gives us indication that the depth is at its correct point in order to penetrate deep enough into the skin.
Is this treatment painful ?
This is the question that everyone asks. The idea of needles can be put some people off. However SkinPen shouldn’t hurt when it’s done by a professional. This is why we apply a topical numbing cream to the face before we begin the treatment. We like to say that it’s more pressure than pain.
When will I see SkinPen results?
The time frame is individual, and you’ll likely get a better idea of how your skin will respond after you’ve had a few treatments. For most patients, results are noticeable about a week after treatment. The process starts immediately after your visit, though, with visible skin tightening.
Expect optimal results after about 4-6 weeks. That’s roughly the amount of time that it takes for collagen to develop fully. It also takes about a month for the skin cells to turn over entirely, from start to finish.
More extensive issues like scarring, deep lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation will need more than one session to see visible results. Our aestheticians usually recommend a course of three.

Post Treatment Advice
You should avoid touching the area or applying any products onto the skin for 12 hours in order to prevent infection.
Post treatment Skinfuse LIFT HG can be applied to help soothe the area. After 12 hours Skinfuse RESCUE Calming complex can be used to help support remodelling of the skin. At LAB we give you the serums to ensure you apply them daily following your treatment.
The treatment area can be red and warm for 24 to 48 hours post treatment but most patients see a reduction in erythema after 24 hours of treatment. Specific post treatment instructions will be given to you by our nurses and aestheticians
A search was performed using PubMed/MEDLINE and Science Direct databases. Search terms included “microneedling,” “needling,” and “percutaneous collagen induction.” All available studies involving human subjects were included in the discussion, with priority given to prospective, randomized trials.
Results:
Studies demonstrate microneedling efficacy and safety for the treatment of scars, acne, melasma, photodamage, skin rejuvenation, hyperhidrosis and alopecia and for facilitation of transdermal drug delivery. While permanent adverse events are uncommon, transient erythema and post inflammatory hyperpigmentation are more commonly reported.
Conclusion:
Microneedling appears to be an overall effective and safe therapeutic option for numerous dermatologic conditions. Larger and more randomized controlled trials are needed to provide greater data on the use of microneedling for different dermatologic conditions in different skin types.
